Dimitri Zinovievich Tiomkin 1894 –1979. A Ukrainian-born, American film composer and conductor. Classically trained in St. Petersburg, Russia before the Bolshevik Revolution, he moved to Berlin and then New York City after the Russian Revolution. In 1929, after the stock market crash, he moved to Hollywood, where he became best known for his scores for Western films, including Duel in the Sun, Red River, High Noon, The Big Sky, Gunfight at the O.K. Corral, and Last Train from Gun Hill. Tiomkin received twenty-two Academy Award nominations and won four Oscars, three for Best Original Score for High Noon, The High and the Mighty, and The Old Man and the Sea, and one for Best Original Song for "The Ballad of High Noon" from the former film The Sundowners is a 1960 Technicolor film that tells the story of an Australian outback family torn between the father's desires to continue his nomadic sheep-herding ways and the wife's and son's desire to settle down in one place. The film stars Deborah Kerr, Robert Mitchum, and Peter Ustinov, with a supporting cast including Glynis Johns, Dina Merrill, Michael Anderson Jr., and Chips Rafferty. The screenplay was adapted by Isobel Lennart from Jon Cleary's 1952 novel of the same name; it was produced and directed by Fred Zinnemann. It falls into the Australian meat pie Western genre. At the 33rd Academy Awards, The Sundowners was nominated for Best Actress in a Leading Role (Deborah Kerr), Best Actress in a Supporting Role (Glynis Johns), Best Director, Best Picture, and Best Writing, Screenplay Based on Material from Another Medium On this video a different take, but also based on fading tradition. The traditional traveling gypsies in their ornate colourful wagons, once a common sight beside the way on some rustic lane. The whole notion of this way of life still has a strong romantic appeal, escaping the pressures of the twenty first century for a simpler outdoor existence closer to Nature. Enjoy the catchy little tune that seems to gently trot on its merry way. Groh Rafferty Lorenzo Ponte Amadé Mozart Antonio Salieri Cornetti Nancy Storace 1785 2016
"Per la salute di ricuperata Ofelia" - KV 477a WORLD PREMIERE - FIRST RECORDING Vinicius Kattah - FORTEPIANO (Built by Gert Hecher) Ute Groh - BAROQUE CELLO Kate Rafferty - SOPRANO Recorded at GERT HECHER KLAVIER-ATELIER The piece was discovered in early 2016 in Prague by German musicologist Timo Jouko Herrmann. It consisted of the libretto by Lorenzo de Ponte and the first printed edition of the musical Freundenlied (Song) composed in 1785 by composers Wolfgang Amadé Mozart, Antonio Salieri and Cornetti. The existence of this Freundenlied was known by researchers and musicologists, but since 1785 had not been located. The piece is extremely important for classical music and also comes to demystify the rivalry between the composers Mozart and Salieri, as presented by the film AMADEUS. The conductor and musicologist Brazilian Vinicius Kattah, residing in Vienna, Austria, had fundamental role to this exposé. Vinicius had access to the score at the Prague museum and along with his team at TUTTI MOZART made the first recording and official broadcasting of the work on his Facebook page and YouTube channel. The project Tutti Mozart presented a video explaining all the details of the piece and its history (The Discovery). "Per la salute di ricuperata Ofelia" was composed for the British prima donna Nancy Storace. Nancy was singing an opera and at the beginning of the second act lost her voice. The "lost Freundenlied" was subsequently commissioned to wish Nancy a good and swift recovery. The piece was called “The Recuperation of Ofelia”, as Nancy was due to sing the role of Ofelia in Salieri's opera "La Grotta di Trofonio" of which she had to cancel the premier of. The only complete recording can be heard here with conductor Vinicius Kattah on the Fortepiano, Ute Groh on the baroque cello and soprano Kate Rafferty in a historically informed recording on period instruments.
