John McCormack Richard Wagner Fawcett Johnston Ernest Newman 1930 1950
The aria "O König, das kann ich dir nicht sagen" from Act II of Richard Wagner's "Tristan and Isolde" was recorded by John McCormack on March 10, 1930. According to McCormack scholar, Bryan Fawcett-Johnston, this was recorded privately for critic Ernest Newman and conductor Felix Furtwangler. Although not published in McCormack's lifetime, it was eventually released in the 1950's on an RCA LP. It is considered and essential McCormack recording.

Saint Saens Albertini John Fawcett Fawcett Oregon Mozart Players
Saint-Saens is quoted to have been describing this piece, having gained its inspiration sitting next to a crackling fireplace in a hotel room during a rainy evening in Brest, France. He had dedicated the work to the Cuban violinist, Rafael Diaz Albertini whom he collaborated with. If you are new to this piece, be sure to check out so many wonderful recording that are out there on the worldwide web (several of which are a bit more polished than mine:P).
