Henri Nibelle Mustel Fauré Guilmant Vierne Monk 1883 1887 1912 1935 1959 1967 2012
Henri Nibelle +••.••(...)) was the son and grand-son of organists, who studied with Fauré, Guilmant and Vierne at the Paris Conservatoire. Like Vierne, Nibelle was nearly blind. Nibelle was choir-organist at the Cathedral of Versailles for two years before becoming the titulaire at St. Vincent de Paul in Paris (where Boëllmann had played); Nibelle was later titular organist at St. Francis de Sales from 1912 to 1959. This Offertory is based on a plain-chant Alleluia verse, sung on the feast of St. Joseph (19 March). It is from Nibelle's "50 Pièces, sur des themes liturgiques des dimanches at fêtes de l'année," published in 1935 for harmonium. Performed by Michael Hendron on his Mustel harmonium, built in Paris in 1887; recorded in concert 8 June 2012 in the Lady Chapel of St. Dominic's Catholic Church, San Francisco. This is for Brother Christian, a monk in Illinois, who alerted me to Nibelle's music.
