Émile Louis Fortuné Pessard Alphonse Leduc Leduc 1843 1866 1917
I'm sure that the Parisian composer Émile Louis Fortuné Pessard +••.••(...)) - winner of the Prix de Rome in 1866 - would wish to be remembered for his operas and church music. However, he seems to live on through this one piece, which remains popular in an arrangement (I think) for flute and piano. There are several flute performances on YT. I believe that this is the original version - certainly there is nothing on the Alphonse Leduc score to indicate otherwise, and it seems to come from a set of 20 short concert pieces. This performance may seem faster than the flute versions - but this piano score has a suggested metronome marking of crotchet=92, which is not far off my average tempo. For all those students out there learning this piece without a reference recording! I have several students who have learned this piece and have always looked for a reference recording or a video of a pro performing it with no luck. So, at a quick recording session, I decided to make this video for my students. This piece has a lot of room for expression. The interpretation I used is not over the top but very simple for all those students out there to have a basic idea of how the piece sounds. Thanks to Kristine Anderson (Seattle pianist) for helping me with this! Check out my website for more information. www.katherineisbillemeneth.com
