Vladimir Krainev +••.••(...)), piano Rec. 1990 00:00 1. Ondine 05:50 2. Le Gibet 11:01 3. Scarbo The Russian pianist Vladimir Krainev studied at the Central School of the Moscow Conservatory in the class of Anaida Sumbatyan, and also studied at the Conservatory in the classes of Heinrich Neuhaus, and his son, Stanislav Neuhaus. He began his pianistic career by winning prizes in major international competitions, including 2nd prize in the Leeds and 1st prize (ex-aequo with Nelson Freire) in the Vianna da Motta in Lisbon. But he was celebrated mainly for his victory in the 1970 Tchaikovsky Piano Competition in Moscow (ex-aequo with John Lill). He worked with leading orchestras, conductors and artists around the world. Alfred Schnittke dedicated to him his Concerto for Piano and String Orchestra. Krainev initiated a music festival entitled ‘Vladimir Krainev invites', held in turn in Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Kirgizstan. For many years, he also gave a series of concerts at the Moscow Conservatory, featuring outstanding musicians, as well as students, young musicians and prize-winners of his own piano competition, first held in 1992 in Kharkov, Ukraine. In 1994, he set up a fund for young pianists. Krainev was also a distinguished piano teacher. For many years, he taught at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hanover. He sat on the jury of many international competitions, including the 15th Chopin Competition in Warsaw, and in 2002 he chaired the jury of the 12th Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow. (http•••)

Vladimir Ashkenazy Chopin Tchaikovsky Sakharov Anaida Sumbatyan 1962
Vladimir Ashkenazy playing Chopin's 12 etudes, op. 25, with Mazurka op. 30 no. 4 as an encore, live at the 1962 Dubrovnik Summer Festival. This was shortly after he triumphed at the Tchaikovsky competition. The photo shows Ashkenazy with Dmitri Sakharov and their teacher Anaida Sumbatyan. Unfortunately about two-thirds of the etudes have a strange clicking sound, like a worn-out CD-R. More info here – (http•••) Encore - 30:44 Владимир Ашкенази - Шопен - Этюды
