Recording of the waltz “Valse de Pesth - Wspomnienia z Pesztu” (Memories from Pest), composition of Adam Karasiński, played by the orchestra conducted presumably by the composer. Recorded for Stella Concert Record in the series ‘Repertuar polski’, ca. 1908, at the speed most probably 74 rpm, at which the record has been now played back. ................................................................................................... Adam (Józef) Karasiński (1868, Warszawa – 1920, Warszawa) - Polish composer, violinist and pianist. He was called the Polish king of the waltz. Until 1915, he ran his own orchestra of entertainment, with which he was giving concerts in Paris, Moscow, Vienna and Budapest. He was the author of numerous salon and folk dances. His son was Zygmunt Karasiński, who was initially taught by his father. He had also two daughters, Aleksandra and Helena, who were pianists. Written by Adam Karasiński Waltz François in 1905 may be regarded to be the first pop song in the history of Polish pop music, which gained international popularity. It was first published in London then in Vienna. After the composer's death, the work was reworked by his son, Zygmunt Karasiński. The lyrics of the song were written then by Andrzej Włast, who dedicated them to Tola Mankiewiczowna, popular soprano singer. Waltz François has been sung for many years by various Polish vocalists and played by many orchestras. Adam Karasiński wrote one of the first Polish tangos - Tango Messal, dedicated to Lucyna Messal, operetta singer. Presumably, tango was released around 1914. The composer was buried in Warsaw, at Powązki Cemetary. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
