An American Requiem came into being as a result of Richard Danielpour's personal conversations with American veterans from World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. The work follows the design of Benjamin Britten's War Requiem in its combined use of the traditional Latin and English texts. Completed in June 2001, the work received its first performance in November of the same year and was dedicated to those who perished in the tragic events of September 11th. Performed by Pacific Symphony and Pacific Chorale Soloists: Stephanie Blythe (mezzo-soprano), Hugh Smith (tenor), Mark Oswald (baritone) Conducted by Carl St. Clair
