Metropolitan Opera Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra Carlos Enrique Santelli Ortiz
Marie is the daughter of the regiment. Orphaned as an infant, she was adopted and raised by a French army regiment not knowing about her noble past. The military life suits her until she falls for the handsome peasant Tonio. Love-struck for Marie he must join the regiment to be near her, and gain approval from her army of “fathers”. To further complicate matters Marie is whisked away from the regiment by the Marquise of Birkenfeld who knows of her aristocratic lineage and wants to introduce her properly to society. This, of course, upends the regimental order of things, and Marie must then choose between marrying for love or for social status. It’s a show of equal parts comedy, romance, and vocal fireworks. Orlando native and Metropolitan Opera National Competition winner Carlos Enrique Santelli takes on the role of Tonio and the famous aria “Ah Mes Amis” with no less than nine high C’s, Soprano Camille Ortiz takes on the title role of Marie, the beloved daughter of the regiment, and bass-baritone Peter Strummer returns to Orlando in the buffo role of Sergeant Sulpice. The production features musicians from the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra and members of the Opera Orlando Chorus. Sung in French with English dialogue and supertitles. A pre-show lecture is offered free for all ticket holders 45 minutes prior to each performance featuring the conductor and stage director. Visit us at (http•••)
