Overture to "The Creatures of Prometheus," Op. 43 Ludwig van Beethoven +••.••(...)) Virtual KSO Project: Lighting the darkness during the coronavirus (COVID-19) global pandemic. Beethoven composed this ballet based on the Greek myth of Prometheus. Prometheus took pity on man during a dark time and brought them fire stolen from the gods. This gave rise to art, music, knowledge, dance, and more. The work carries messages of hope, the importance of art, and with the theme of fire, the idea of keeping the flame alive. Similarly, KSO’s music director, Julian Kuerti, and musicians wanted to find ways to continue playing together—even if only virtually—for our community. This compilation represents our individual flames of music coming together with yours for something larger. We completed this on a volunteer basis for those who wished to participate and create something meaningful during this difficult time. This piece calls for a smaller orchestration, so not all the KSO musicians who volunteered were able to participate.
