Thomas Zehetmair and the Ural Philharmonic Orchestra perform Benjamin Britten’s Double Concerto in B minor for Violin and Viola in the Sverdlovsk Philharmonic in Yekaterinburg. The Austrian conductor also participates as soloist on the violin. The soloist on the viola is Ruth Killius from Germany. Benjamin Britten +••.••(...)) composed the Double Concerto in B minor for Violin and Viola in 1932 during his penultimate year as a student of piano and composition at the Royal College of Music in London. It’s one of the British composer’s early works and lay forgotten for many years. The first performance of the Double Concerto (arranged by Colin Matthews) was given at the 50th Aldeburgh Festival by Katherine Hunka and Philip Dukes with the Britten-Pears Orchestra conducted by Kent Nagano, in 1997.
