Ede Poldini Henry Wood Doll 1869 1893 1895 1922 1924 1957
I found this piece in a book from a series of collectable periodicals 'Music of All the Nations', issued 1922-8 in the UK, and edited by Sir Henry Wood. Ede (Eduard) Poldini +••.••(...)) was a Hungarian composer who studied in Budapest and Vienna, but spent much of his life in Switzerland. He is mainly remembered for his 1895 trifle "Poupée valsante" (Dancing Doll), but wrote much else including two operas (one of which - 'Hochzeit im Fasching' (Wedding in Carnival-Time, from 1924) - is available in a Hungarian recording), and much piano music. This piece was originally published in 1893. I have not seen the rest of the set from which it comes, but presume that it was inspired by Paul Verlaine's 1869 collection of poems of the same title.
