This is a cover of the gorgeous main theme for the 1986 film The Mission, known as "Gabriel's Oboe" by Italian composer Ennio Morricone. Also known and loved as "Nella Fantasia", this song has been performed and transcribed for many different ensembles, choirs, solo instruments and singers! Hope you enjoy this version for cello and piano as well, inspired by the incomparable Yo-Yo Ma. Performers: Sungyong Lim (cello) and Karen Lee-Morlang (piano) BIOGRAPHIES: Performer, educator and producer Karen Lee-Morlang has been lauded as "funny, brainy and creative." After specializing in art song and chamber music for her post-graduate degree from UBC, she then taught as a Sessional Lecturer there. Karen has championed “art music for the masses” with dedicated passion, co-producing recital and lecture series for organizations such as the Vancouver Art Gallery, UBC Main Library, Vancouver Opera and the Vancouver Public Library, and CBC Radio. As a performer, Karen has been featured at the Vancouver International Jazz Festival, MusicFest Vancouver, the World Peace Forum, Women's Worlds Conference, the Vancouver Folk Festival and has been broadcast on CBC Radio. In addition to playing and touring with many different musicians, Karen is a founding member of “The Lady Larks”, “The No Sh!t Shirleys”, and accompanies “The Vancouver Welsh Men’s Choir”. Karen is especially committed to her role as the Artistic Director of Health Arts Society of BC, which delivers over 700 professional music and theatre performances annually, to audiences in health care and retirement communities, providing those isolated from our arts community the experience of enjoying performance arts in their own homes. Cellist, Sungyong Lim, graduated with honors from the renowned Yewon School and the Seoul School of the Arts before entering the Korea National University of Arts. During his university studies, he decided to advance his musical education in Europe. Accepted by the Detmold Musik Hochschule in Germany, he earned a bachelor's degree, master's degree, a konzertexamen's degree in cello performance. Among his many musical achievements, Sungyong has received accolades from the Deutdcher Akademischer Austausch Dienst and from his performance at the German Chamber Music Competition. He continues to receive invitations for solo engagements from organizations such as the German Johannes-Brahms-Saal, and Detmold Konzert Hause, as well as from musical groups in Switzerland , France, Luxembourg, Germany and Korea. Sung Yong has also concertized as an outstanding artist in the French Flaine International Masterclass, the Courchevel Music Festival, the Swiss Lugano Music Festival and the Swiss Sion Music Festival. In addition, he performed, by invitation at music concerts with the Navara Music Festival, and had concerts under Kurt Masur. He also attended the Master classes of famous music professors, such as Lauren Lesser, Christoph Henkel, Xenia Jankovich, Yong Chang Cho and Praha Trio. His musical talents have been influenced by many recognized artists with whom he studied, including Marcio Carneiro, Johnes Goritzki, Alexander Gebert, Aurin Qurtet, and Sung Won Yang. Sungyong has played as the principal cellist of both the German Detmold Orchestra and the Mosy Chamber Orchestra. Sungyong currently teaches privately and at Kwantlen Polytechnic University, is a member of the Borealis String Quartet and a frequent performer for Health Arts Society of BC.
