Teizo Matsumura Inoue Shirai Adachi Tahara Okamoto Ito 1929 1987 2007 2017
Teizo Matsumura (1929~2007, Japan) 弦楽のためのプネウマ Pneuma for Strings Kei Shirai, Ami Yumoto, Nobuhiro Suyama, Nao Maeda, Ai Takeuchi, Tadashi Machida, Kanako Yanagida, violin Mari Adachi, Ayako Tahara, viola Hiroki Kadowaki, Kei Yamazawa, cello Jun Okamoto, double bass Sho Ito, conducting Recorded: September 6, 2017 (Live) at the Blue Rose of Suntory Hall in the Suntory Foundation for Arts' Summer Festival 2017 From NHK FM "Gendai no ongaku (Music of our time)" "Pneuma" is a Greek word meaning "wind" and "breath" and "spirit". Engaku Shonin (円覚上人) preached that wind enters the body and becomes a breath. Blowing the wind to everything, although the wind itself has no sound, these emit their own sounds. In the wind without sounds, sounds are hidden infinitely. Zhuangzi (荘子) preached that this is the "Tenrai [天籟]." When I visited around Dunhuang, I stood on the desert of Yangguan Pass and heard faint wind sound that was in the far higher place. Since I knew the word "Pneuma" by the writing of Yoji Inoue (井上洋治), this word has always lived inside of me. A considerable amount of time has passed from the time on I decided pursuing ups and downs of sounds and reverberation by using a string orchestra. At today's Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music Centennial Memorial Concert, I decided to realize it. The work is a single movement, less than 10 minutes. [Teizo Matsumura] (Reproduced from the program of the first performance) First performance: September 19, 1987, Suntory Hall, Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music Orchestra conducted by Teizo Matsumura from the Program Note of the Suntory Foundation for Arts' Summer Festival 2017 "プネウマ"はギリシャ語で、「風」と「息」と「霊」という三つの意味がある。
