Part I of the 2012 Kwerdas sa Kapayapaan, Pagyamanin Likas Musika Rondalla Festival was held at Kapalong Town Square, Kapalong, Davao Del Norte Saturday, 11 February 2012 for our program's Mindanao based beneficiaries. The participating groups composed of 5 beneficiary marginalized communities/selected schools of the Pagyamananin Likas Musika-Rondalla Instrument Lending Program from Mindanao area performed their chosen pieces from folk to contemporary music. There were singing and dancing provided by Tibi-Tibi Elementary School, local Street Children and High School students of Kapalong. Pagyamanin Likas Musika's vision is to help preserve and promote the playing and appreciation of the native Philippines rondalla instruments while at the same time becoming an agent of change for the Philippines by investing in the future of its children. Our mission is to work together to build a stronger and healthier Philippines by levelling the playing field for our less fortunate children through the iconic rondalla tradition. To date there are 32 community/ institution beneficiaries all over the Philippines. It is our legacy PLM program's objective to promote awareness of this unique aspect of Philippines heritage and increase the number of rondalla aficionados, especially from those who could not otherwise afford to acquire the instruments. It is hoped that this will ensure a permanent interest in this national treasure of the Philippines, keep alive and well the rondalla instrument making craft and industry and provide for a much brighter opportunity and future for its children.
