Concert Monteverdi's Madrigals of Love and War TENET The Fall 2012 concert series at Columbia University’s Italian Academy for Advanced Studies begins on Saturday, November 3, 2012 at 7:00 PM with a performance of Claudio Monteverdi’s “Madrigals of Love and War” by the celebrated early-music ensemble TENET led by soprano Jolle Greenleaf. For this performance, TENET will be joined by acclaimed violinist, conductor, and music director of Blue Heron, Scott Metcalfe, along with musicians from TENET’s roster including artistic director Jolle Greenleaf and Molly Quinn, sopranos; Jason McStoots, Aaron Sheehan, Sumner Thompson, tenors; Mischa Bouvier, baritone; Hank Heijink and Daniel Swenberg, theorbos; Avi Stein, harpsichord; and special guest Robert Mealy, violin. Brilliant color, high drama, breathtaking melodies and some of the most daring vocal writing of the early Baroque make Claudio Monteverdi’s Book 8 an undisputed masterpiece. Published in 1638, Monteverdi set texts by some of the greatest Renaissance and 17th-century poets in these striking musical mini-dramas depicting the metaphorical combat between men and women on the battlefield that is love (http•••)
