He wrote much liturgical music - including several dozen masses and five requiems - but also several operas plus orchestral, chamber, organ and piano music. Uploading this video on the supposed 400th anniversary of Shakespeare's death makes me think how interesting it would be to see Nešvera's greatest (1897) operatic success - 'Perdita', an adaptation of 'A Winter's Tale', with a libretto by Jaroslav Kvapil - better-known as the librettist of Dvorak's 'Rusalka'. The title 'Písěn' translates as 'song'. / / Played by Phillip Sear (http•••) (Email: •••@••• WhatsApp: (http•••) )

Phillip Sear plays a depiction of a leaf (either green or dead - depending on whether you read Czech or German) from a set of albumleaves by the Bohemian composer Josef Nešvera). / #10 from ''Listky do památniku' (literally 'memorial petals'), Op. 68 (1901) / The Bohemian composer and organistJosef Nešvera +••.••(...)) studied in Prague and later had a career as a choral conductor and music director at various churches, and was a friend of Smetana. The titling of this piece is curious. The score names it in Czech and German - but whereas the Czech title translates as 'a green leaf', the German translates as 'a dead leaf'. For me, the mood of the music suits the latter! / / Played by Phillip Sear (http•••) (Email: •••@••• WhatsApp: (http•••) )
