Victor Vreuls +••.••(...)) Piano Trio in D minor, Op. 1 I. Impéteux 0:00 II. Modérément lent 12:04 III. Simple et calme - Plus vite 23:05 I Giocatori Piano Trio Victor Vreuls +••.••(...)) was born in the Belgian town of Verviers. He initially studied the violin at the local conservatory, then continued his studies in Liege with Sylvain Dupuis and Jean Radoux. In Paris, he studied with Vincent d'Indy later becoming a professor of harmony at the famous Schola Cantorum and subsequently at the Luxemburg Conservatory of which he served at director for many years. Ihe composed in most genres.
I found this little clip of an early Christmas morning in a collection of old home movies. It's the moment when I received the dinosaur piano that would be my introduction to musical instruments. This video captures the first time I ever played an instrument (other than singing weird sounds or Frere Jacques at my parents). Also making an appearance: my very cool mom-made embroidered robe, my Bert and Ernie slippers, and one of my more recent compositions as the soundtrack. You can hear more of what became of that first musical exposure here: (http•••)
Netherlands Radio Symphony Janssen Alphons Diepenbrock César Franck Edvard Grieg Jean Théodore Radoux 1863 1886 1934 1994
- Composer: Carl [Charles] Antoon Smulders (8 mei 1863 / 21 april 1934) - Orchestra: Netherlands Radio Symphony Orchestra - Conductor: Kees Bakels - Soloist: Ivo Janssen - Year of recording: 1994 Piano Concerto in A minor, written in 1886. 00:00 - I. Moderato 10:27 - II. Adagio 17:19 - III. Allegro scherzando/molto This romantic piano concerto by Dutch composer Smulders is written in the traditional 'romantic concerto' style, and could be considered one of the best piano concertos from the Netherlands. Fellow Dutch composer Alphons Diepenbrock described the concerto 'like sun dawn', and wrote that the composition had 'the absolute character of authenticity'. In Smulders' composition a clear influence from the César Franck school can be seen, and a kinship to the music of Edvard Grieg is apparent [compare to Grieg's Piano Concerto in A minor, uploaded on this channel]. The concerto is dedicated: "à mon maitre J.-Th [Jean-Théodore] Radoux". Radoux was director of the Liège Conservatoire, and considered Smulders as his special, very talented pupil. My apologies again for the bad score quality, I had to use scans made from a microfilm for this upload.
