Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Korte Schobert Bach 1529 1756 1766 1777 1791 1934
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (27 January 1756 – 5 December 1791) was one of the most influential, popular and prolific composers of the classical period. A child prodigy, from an early age he began composing over 600 works, including some of the most famous pieces of symphonic, chamber, operatic, and choral music. Violin Sonata No. 12 in G major, K. 27 Andante poco Adagio (8:28) Allegro (11:46) 3. Violin Sonata No. 13 in C major, K. 28 Allegro maestoso (15:29) Allegro grazioso (19:34) 4. Violin Sonata No. 14 in D major, K. 29 Allegro molto (22:16) Menuetto & Trio (25:34) 5. Violin Sonata No. 15 in F major, K. 30 Adagio (28:54) Rondeaux - Tempo di Menuetto (33:40) 6. Violin Sonata No. 16 in B-flat major, K. 31 Allegro (36:16) Tempo di Menuetto - Menuetto with 6 Variations (40:05) Rémy Baudet, violin and Pieter-Jan Belder, harpsichord The Mozart family stayed in the beginning of their stay in The Hague at the Hotel La Ville de Paris. It was situated at the corner of de Korte Houtstraat and de Fluwelen Burgwal. It was all demolished. Now it is the Kalvermarkt. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's set of six sonatas for keyboard and violin, K. 26–31 were composed in early 1766 in The Hague during the Mozart family's grand tour of Europe. They were dedicated to Princess Caroline of Nassau-Weilburg on the occasion of the eighteenth birthday of her brother, William V, Prince of Orange. They were published as Mozart's "Opus 4". These works show an improvement in compositional technique over the sets for Paris (K. 6–9) and London (K. 10–15), although like the previous sets, the keyboard part dominates and the violin may be considered optional. Mozart composed all three early sets of accompanied sonatas while touring northwest Europe. These types of sonatas were not favored at home in Salzburg. Mozart would not revisit this genre until 1777–78 on a trip to Mannheim and Paris. These sonatas share common features of style and technique with popular contemporaries such as Eckard, Schobert, Honauer and J.C. Bach: melody and accompaniment are clearly separated, the violin plays in thirds, sixths or octaves with the melody. The genre's formal outline, content and technical demands were conditioned for most of the century by the lucrative amateur amateur domestic market at which it was directly aimed. The content was typical of the Rococo period which nurtured it: simple, melodic, major-mode and unrelenting diatonic and homophonic - conversation in the truly 'galant' sense of having little to talk about, but doing it above all politely and charmingly. The keyboard part had to be self sufficient, lest no 'accompaniment' was available, and the music was intended less for the detached listener than for the players themselves. Roger Hellyer
