Ede Zathureczky (1903,Igló - 1959,Bloomington,Indiana) Eminent Hungarian violinist and music pedagogue, outstanding representative of the generation of violinists after Jenő Hubay. Presumably, he inherited his musical talents from his mother, Mária Fiblinger, who was a decent pianist and opera singer. Zathureczky began playing the violin at the age of seven and gave his first recital in 1911, when he was barely 8 years old. In 1914, his family moved to Kassa (Kosice), where he joined Tivadar Kun's class. In 1918, he was admitted to the Music Academy, in Budapest where he proved one of Hubay's most gifted disciples. He also studied composition with Albert Siklós. In addition to Hungary, he also reaped laurels in Austria, Germany, Italy, Holland the Scandinavioan countries, and the United States. His wonderful tone, virtuoso technique, and chiselled formal and stylistic sense became worls famous. From 1929 he was appointed Hubay's assistent at the art conservatory; in 1935 he was made professor there. Between 1943 and 1957, he acted as directo general at the Academy of Music. For his artistic and pedagogical achievements, he was awarded the Kossuth prize in 192 and 1955; 1952 he was made Eminent Artist. Between 1957 and 1959, he taught violin at the Indiana University in Bloomington. As a professor of music, he contuined the tradition of Hubay's school. He taught many gifted violinists: György Pauk, Dénes Kovács, Péter Komlós, Albert Kocsis,Sándor Devich and others. As a performing artist, he specialities were the music of Romanticism and the works of Béla Bartók.
