Hayashi Hikaru Otaka Yuzo Toyama Michio Mamiya Frederic Rzewski 1931 2012
Hikaru Hayashi is one of Japan's best-known composers. Born in Tokyo in 1931, he studied under Naotada Otaka, whom his father had met while studying in Berlin, and displayed a precocious genius. After Otaka's death, he studied under the famous teacher Tomojiro Ikeunochi. He continued to study under Tomojiro Ikeunochi when he entered Tokyo University of the Arts, but dropped out due to a conflict with the school. He later became one of the leading composers of the postwar left, with themes such as anti-war and anti- atomic and hydrogen bombs. He approached the genre of vocal music and wrote his masterpiece, "Little Landscapes of Hiroshima," and became the resident composer of the opera theater Konnyaku-za and wrote a lot of dramatic music. He also founded the "Yaginokai" with Yuzo Toyama and Michio Mamiya, who shared the same ideology, and wrote many anti-establishment works that sought peace. This piece, "Warsawianka Variations," is another clear expression of his philosophy, and the theme of the variations is a song about Poland's struggle for independence against imperial Russia. The theme of the variation was the struggle for independence of Poland against Imperial Russia. Using this song as a theme, the piece evolved with various techniques and stories and quotations, and is probably a masterpiece of struggle variations along with Frederic Rzewski's "The People United Will Never Be Defeated!," which is also a labor song theme. Rzewski's piece is also very difficult and has not been performed that many times, but this piece is even less frequently heard, which I feel is a shame, and I hope that many people will take this opportunity to learn about it. Hikaru Hayashi passed away in 2012 from injuries sustained in a fall at home. This video was made with the help of the Nagoya U. Michio Mamiya Chikashi Tanaka Tanaka Tadashi Hori Hori Shiraga Tokunaga 1929 1963 1969
Molto lento 12:40 III.
