Teresa Carreño Gioachino Rossini Gustav Mahler Edvard Grieg Angell Carnegie Hall Teresa Carreño Cultural Complex Venezuela Symphony Orchestra 2021
María Teresa Gertrudis de Jesús Carreño García (Teresa Carreño) was a 19th century Venezuelan soprano, pianist, conductor, and composer. Carreño had a truly exceptional life in music, from her early days taking voice lessons with Gioachino Rossini, to her many performing accomplishments including concerts on nearly every continent, at Carnegie Hall, with conductors Gustav Mahler and Edvard Grieg, and twice at the White House, including once for Abraham Lincoln. Today, the Venezuela Symphony Orchestra performs in the Teresa Carreño Cultural Complex, she's the subject of the documentary Teresita y el Piano, and even part of the planet Venus is named for her! This is, to the best of our knowledge, the first video recording of this exceptionally rich and emotional quartet. Jennifer Leckie and Rasa Mahmoudian, violins Seth Pae, viola Tom Clowes, cello Aidan Kranz, videography Miyu Morita, sound This performance was a part of Crossing Borders Music's 2021 Mother's Day program, featuring women and mother composers from around the globe. The mission of Crossing Borders Music is to use music to promote the dignity of people from all cultures.
