“For what, we ask, is life without a touch of Feminism in it?”

Dating from late in the fruitful collaboration between librettist William S. Gilbert and composer Arthur Sullivan, "The Yeomen of the Guard" is a departure from the rest of the pair's comic operas, with an unusually serious, even melancholy tone and a particularly lovely score relatively light on comical ditties. Now in its 65th season, the Bay Area's preeminent Gilbert and Sullivan troupe, Lamplighters Music Theatre, cycles through the duo's works on a regular basis, and it's now performing "Yeomen" on a short tour from Walnut Creek to Mountain View, San Francisco and Livermore.

You'd be hard pressed to find a troupe more dedicated to the works of librettist William S. Gilbert and composer Arthur Sullivan than Lamplighters Music Theatre, which has been performing the duo's comic operas in the Bay Area since 1952. Who better to create a musical revue celebrating the partnership of Gilbert and Sullivan? First performed in 1998, "A Song to Sing, O!" now closes the company's 64th season with a short that continues in Walnut Creek and Atherton.
