This is Frederic Chopin's fourth scherzo in E major, Op.54. Chopin +••.••(...)) was an extremely influential composer during the romantic period. Although he almost exclusively composed piano music, his compositions are considered to be some of the most important, and certainly the most popular, of the romantic period. Scherzo literally means "joke", but Chopin's scherzos are no joke. They are all in a quick 3, felt in 1, and are highly technical. The form, ABA, is an outgrowth of the minuet-trio form. While classical scherzos are typically fast and light, Chopin's scherzos are often imposing. This scherzo is more upbeat than the rest with the A section being in a major key. The B section is much more lyrical and melancholy. It is based off of a polish folk song. The A section returns with embellishment and heads into a lively coda. This piece is part of Gregory Worthley's senior recital. If you would like to watch the whole recital, go to (http•••)
