Claudin Sermisy Jacotin Pierre Attaingnant Nicolas Chemin Monk Cornetti Fresco 1520 1528 1530 1552 1560
Au pres de vous 0:06 Original chanson for 4 voices 2:06 Instrumental arrangement for flute, lute, harp and viol 3:51 Instrumental arrangement for cornetto, viol, 2 trombones Although the actual authorship of this work is still in question (Jacotin or Claudin de Sermisy), its popularity during the first half of the 16th century is not. There were multiple versions of this piece (for 2, 3 and 4 parts) printed in several editions by the best known publishers in Paris including Pierre Attaingnant, Adrian Le Roy and Nicolas du Chemin. In Attaingnant's 1528 collection of 34 chansons, "Au pres de vous" is printed as the premiere work on the first page of his tome. Moreover, a manuscript of the chanson and a lute tabulature were drawn side by side in a Franco-Flemish painting titled "Prodigal son" (see description below in Illustations) As always, the vocal simulation was created using the Yamaha program Vocaloid 4 with 2 Spanish language voice encoders: Maika (superius and altus) and Bruno (tenor and bassus). The instrumental arrangements were created using Music Studio 2. The original MIDI file was entered by Laura Conrad using a reed organ setting and uploaded to the website serpentpublications.org . This second version eliminates some of the annoying overtones generated by the Audacity post-edit. Text: Au pres de vous secretement demeure mon povre cueur, sans que nulle conforte, et si languit pour la douleur qu'il porte Puisque voulez, qu'en ce tourment il meure. Translation My poor heart secretly stays by you, Without any comfort, it languishes for the pain it carries Because you wish it dies of this torment. / Illustrations: 1.
