Robert Fischhof Fischhof Clara Schumann Schumann Bruckner Liszt Mahler Esterházy Scriabin Godowsky Rudolf Friml 1856 1894 1918
Phillip Sear plays an original and beautiful 'love poem' from 1894 by the Viennese composer Robert Fischhof +••.••(...)) / The Austrian pianist and composer Robert Fischhof +••.••(...)) came from a wealthy Viennese family, and his mother was a pupil of Clara Schumann. Fischhof himself studied composition at the Vienna Conservatory (where he later taught piano) under Bruckner, and later became a piano pupil of Liszt and Leschetitzky. He wrote concerti and an opera, as well as two violin sonatas. Curiously, some opus numbers have more than one work attached to them: this piece shares an opus number with one of his violin sonatas, yet is an independent work. Seemingly, the publisher Cranz started a list of numbers that overlapped those used by other publishers! On the first page of the score, this exceptional short piano piece is dedicated to the wife of Anton Door, one of Fischhof's piano teachers in Vienna. However, on the front cover, it is dedicated to Mahler's friend, the philanthropist Countess Misa Wydenbruck-Esterházy. The harmonies are advanced for their period, and suggest, variously, Scriabin, Godowsky and (surprisingly) Rudolf Friml in his piano pieces from the 1910s. / / Played by Phillip Sear (http•••) (Email: •••@••• WhatsApp: (http•••) )

François Schubert Franz Schubert Czerny Fischhof Berlioz 1816 1835 1843 1845 1847 1883
Léopold de Meyer: Marche marocaine Op.22 Léopold de Meyer +••.••(...)) was a pianist and composer born in Baden, near Vienna. He studied under François Schubert (not the Franz Schubert), Czerny and Fischhof. From 1835 to 1843, he traveled through Eastern Europe and Russia, visiting Bucharest, Jassy, Odessa, St. Petersburg and Moscow. He also spent some time in Constantinople. After returning to Vienna, he undertook concert-tours through the West, and performed in Frankfort, Bruxelles, Paris, London and so on. From 1845 to 1847, he gave concerts in America. His execution was so forceful that he was called "lion pianist." He is sometimes said to have made eccentric behavior and exaggerated action on the stage. This piece was first published as "Machmudier, Air guerrier des Turques." Berlioz arranged this piano-piece for orchestra. He also orchestrated De Meyer's another composition "Marche triomphale d'Isly Op.30." (http•••) Source of the portrait: Gallica / Bibliothèque nationale de France ((http•••)
