Program Concerto for Cello & Orchestra in B minor, Op.104 by Antonín Dvořák (1841–1904) Allegro Adagio, ma non troppo Finale: Allegro moderato — Andante — Allegro vivo Joshua Kováč, cello Joshua Kováč, 14, from Johnson City, Tennessee, first began cello lessons at the age of four as a Suzuki student of Jean Dexter. Since the fall of 2015, he continued his cello studies under the tutelage of Daniel Veis, a renowned cellist and Professor at Park University. Joshua has won top prizes at numerous national and international competitions, including 2nd prize at the Music Teachers National Association Competition, 1st prize at Rudolph Barshai International String Competition, 1st prize at Park-Na International Competition, 2nd prize at Hilton Head Symphony Youth Concerto Competition, 1st prize at Youth Aliyah Concerto Competition, 2nd prize at Heran International Competition, and 1st prize at ProBohemia International Competition. He performed as a soloist with Oak Ridge Symphony Orchestra, Kinnor Philharmonic, ETSU Chamber Orchestra, and Scruffy City Orchestra. On February 6, 2020, Joshua appeared on NPR's radio show From The Top and performed at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston. He is also a recipient of the From The Top's 2020 Jack Kent Cooke Young Artist Award. Joshua has taken part in various music festivals, including Music@Menlo Chamber Music Institute, Heartland Chamber Music Festival, and ETSU Chamber Music Festival and has been invited to participate at the Chamber Music Northwest Institute in Portland, Oregon this summer. Joshua has received masterclasses from renowned musicians Gilbert Kalish, Matt Haimovitz, Steven Doane, Jerome Pernoo, Keith Robinson, Thomas Landshoot, Johannes Moser, and the members of the Harlem and Parker String Quartets. Among other interests, Joshua enjoys competitive swimming, biking, playing chess, reading, and spending time with his family and friends. Joshua is excited and honored to be back for a performance of his dream piece - the Dvořák Cello Concerto with Oak Ridge Symphony Orchestra.
