I Ran into this track on the soundtrack to an awesome documentary essentially about a man who, in my opinion, has seen everything: "The Fog of War: Eleven Lessons from the Life of Robert S. McNamara" (2003) ...after searching Google for "Best Documentaries of All Time". (That year, the film won the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature) It interviews Robert McNamara one of the US's secretary of defense who served under Kennedy while the country was at odds with Cuba as well as his other experiences like while serving at Ford Motor Company. This song plays as McNamara explains how much destruction Japan underwent at the hands of firebombs *before* the atomic bomb was dropped. I have a few of Glass' tracks, this one characteristic of his style, and I loved the song when I first heard it. But the original tempo was a bit too fast for me. It's been slowed down to 80% of the original and the pitch has been lowered. It makes it even more ominous. If you see the film (which I encourage), you'll see it's not a "political" film. In terms of mood, for me, I'd it's "mental" music: It helps me think and meditate. I put it on while doing other projects as well (whatever requires concentration and focus) without loud crescendos. Yet, it still conveys mystery and intrigue. The vertically mirrored Stock Footage of the White House is intentional.
