Culture, Evolution, and the Human Mind A debate featuring Prof. Joe Henrich (Harvard Human Evolutionary Biology) and Prof. Max Krasnow (Harvard Psychology), moderated by Prof. Richard Wrangham (Harvard Human Evolutionary Biology). Prof. Henrich is the co-director of the Human Evolution, Cognition and Culture Centre and the Canada Research Chair in Culture, Cognition and Coevolution. His research focuses on evolutionary approaches to psychology, decision-making and culture, and includes topics related to cultural learning, cultural evolution, culture-gene coevolution, human sociality, prestige, leadership, large-scale cooperation, religion and the emergence of complex human institutions. Prof. Krasnow is interested in investigating the evolutionary roots and cognitive design of human cooperation. He has explored how facets of the ancestral information landscape—that the future of any interaction is uncertain—conspire with distinctive features of the hominin social niche to select for organisms that are more generous, trusting and cooperative than an otherwise rational analysis would predict. Prof. Wrangham is Ruth B. Moore Professor of Biological Anthropology at Harvard University. He has conducted extensive research on primate ecology, nutrition, and social behavior. He founded the Kibale Chimpanzee Project in 1987 and, together with Elizabeth Ross, he co-founded the Kasiisi Project in 1997, and serves as a patron of the Great Apes Survival Partnership (GRASP).
