Episode # 6216 WELCOME STRANGER Original airdate: 1-07-63 Likable, but eccentric Mr. Gandy (played by Paul Crabtree) makes an unexpected return visit to Ellendale, Connecticut and gets arrested for making a fuss in the town square. The action begins when Christine Massey (Loretta Young) makes a trip to the jail to bail him out! Paul Crabtree was a composer, author, actor and director, educated at Syracuse University. He was a Broadway actor in productions including "Oklahoma", "The Iceman Cometh", "Men to the Sea", and "A Story for a Sunday Evening". He directed the Broadway productions "The Silver Whistle", "Texas Li'l Darlin'", "This Time Tomorrow" and "Midsummer". After working on Broadway he tried his hand at Hollywood by writing for The Loretta Young Show, Studio One in Hollywood (1948) and Kraft Theatre (1947). He also wrote two films, Johnny Tiger (1966) and Country Boy (1966) But in 1964 he truly left his mark in the theatre world when he relocated to Crossville, Tennessee where he was able to bring about the off-Broadway theatre The Cumberland County Playhouse. The Playhouse has since become an institution in the rural town of Crossville, where he wrote and directed many shows for the Playhouse stage. Now (2018) the Cumberland County Playhouse is under the supervision of Paul's oldest son Jim Crabtree. Supporting characters in this episode include; Norman Leavitt, Virginia Rose. Charles Seel and Joe Lewis. Norman Leavitt (Elwyn) was born on December 1, 1913 in Lansing, Michigan. He was known for appearances in Off Limits (1952), Trackdown (1957) and The Wild Wild West (1965). He died on December 11, 2005 in Solvang, California Virginia Rose (Bertha) is an actress, known for Forbidden Zone (1980), Magnum, P.I. (1980) and The Silent Scream (1979). Charles Seel (Calvin ) acted in over 30 films from 1938 to 1974 and appeared in over one hundred titles for television from 1952 to 1974. He was also credited as Charles Seal and Charles F. Seel. Born in The Bronx, New York, on April 29, 1897, as a young man he worked for the Biograph Studios as a handyman in the wake of the crew. Later, he began acting on stage in vaudeville, then on Broadway, and then in radio before moving to Hollywood in 1937. His last appearance on the small screen came in the episode The Christmas Party of the television series Apple's Way which aired on December 22, 1974, while for the big screen his last film interpretation was in Airport 1975, in which he plays a passenger who is celebrating his anniversary.[ Seel died in Los Angeles, California, on April 19, 1980 and was buried at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Hollywood Hills.
