Cyril Rootham +••.••(...)) was a well-known English composer, university lecturer in music, organist and conductor whose working life was spent in Cambridge. His composition students included Arthur Bliss, Armstrong Gibbs, Arnold Cooke, Christian Darnton, Walter Leigh, Robin Orr, Bernard Stevens and Percy Young. Although better known for his two symphonies and his many choral works, Rootham also wrote much chamber music. This charming suite for flute and piano was dedicated to Louis Fleury +••.••(...)), who was a famous French flautist and a leading figure in the Société Moderne des Instruments à Vent.
