Released on V Disc for the armed forces in 1945 shortly after Frank Sinatra recorded it, "Slow Dance", as well as several other Alec Wilder pieces (also conducted by Sinatra) were commercially released and eventually combined with some earlier recordings by the Alec Wilder Octet. They were available in several formats over the years, on 78 and 33 1/3 rpm discs and eventually on CD. I think that the spoken introduction by the composer is a particularly nice touch. Hopefully Wilder's music, the various album covers and the candid shots of the composer all make a peaceful contrast to the wartime scenes.
