Francisco Guerrero Salvi Venantius Fortunatus Bennett 1555
The critically acclaimed British vocal ensemble Apollo5 sings Francisco Guerrero's motet 'Veni Domine'. Come, Lord, and do not delay. Come and save us, O Lord our God. And show Thy face and make us safe. As a mother consoles her children, so shall you console us. Come, Lord, and do not delay. And our heart shall rejoice in Thy perfect heart. Come, Lord, and do not delay. Ad quem magi ambulabant, Aurum, thus, myrrham portabant, Immolabant haec sincere Nato regi gloriae. Christo regi, Deo nato, Per Mariam nobis dato, Merito resonet vere, Laus honor et gloria. Shepherds sang their praises o’er him, Called by angels to adore him: “Have no fear but come before him: Born is now your glorious King!” Eastern sages came to view him, Judah’s conqu’ring Lion knew him, Gold and myrrh and incense As their tribute offering. Christ our King, from Mary springing, God made man, salvation bringing, Thee we worship ever singing: “Honour, praise, and glory be!” The album presents rarely-heard consort arrangements of pieces more typically heard sung by a full choir, alongside a carefully curated selection of the finest contemporary repertoire, with the group’s one-to-a-part trademark sound lending a sparkling, revelatory texture to celebrate the magical qualities of dark winter nights. The critically acclaimed British vocal ensemble Apollo5 performs William Byrd’s motet 'Vigilate'. Vigilate, nescitis enim quando dominus domus veniat, sero, an media nocte, an gallicantu, an mane. Vigilate ergo, ne cum venerit repente, inveniat vos dormientes. Quod autem dico vobis, omnibus dico: vigilate. (Mark 13: 35-37) Watch ye therefore (for you know not when the lord of the house cometh, at even, or at midnight, or at the cock crowing, or in the morning): Watch therefore, lest coming on a sudden, he find you sleeping. And what I say to you, I say to all: Watch.
