I. Johann Strauss I (German: Johann Baptist Strauß, Johann Strauss (Vater); also Johann Baptist Strauss, Johann Strauss Sr., the Elder, the Father; March 14, 1804 – September 25, 1849) was an Austrian Romantic composer. He was famous for his waltzes, and he popularized them alongside Joseph Lanner, thereby setting the foundations for his sons to carry on his musical dynasty. He is perhaps best known for his composition of the Radetzky March (named after Joseph Radetzky von Radetz). Valses Loreley-Rhein-Klänge. The Radetzky March, Op. 228 is a march composed by Johann Strauss Sr. in 1848, it was dedicated to the Austrian Field Marshal Joseph Radetzky von Radetz, and became quite a popular march among soldiers. It is highly inspired by - not to say copied from - the final part of Rossini's ouverture from William Tell The Philharmonic Orchestra of RAI Italy executing the Radetzky March of Johann Strauss, live in Italy, for a special public, hundreds of kids. A great way to teach childrens how important and how beautiful is the Classical music and opera... for more info (http•••) RADETZKY MARCH, Op. 228 When it was first played, in front of Austrian officers in attendance, they promptly clapped and stomped their feet when the chorus was played. This tradition is carried over today when the march is played in classical music venues in Vienna, among members of the audience who are familiar with the tradition. It is almost always played as the last piece of music at the Neujahrskonzert, the Vienna New Year Concert. JOHANN STRAUSS Johann Baptist Strauss (March 14, 1804 September 25, 1849; German: Johann Baptist Strauß; also Johann Strauss I, Johann Strauss, Sr., or Johann Strauss the Elder), born in Vienna, was an Austrian Romantic composer known particularly for his waltzes and for popularizing it alongside Josef Lanner thereby (without intention) setting the foundations for his sons to carry on his musical dynasty. His most famous piece is probably the Radetzky March (named after Joseph Radetzky von Radetz) whereas his most famous waltz is probably the Lorelei Rheinklänge op. 154 MAIN JOHANN STRAUSS WALTZ Täuberln-Walzer op. 1 Little Doves (1827) Wiener Carneval op. 3 Viennese Carnival (1828) Kettenbrücke-Walzer op. 4 Suspension Bridge (1828) Tivoli-Rutsch Walzer op. 39 Tivoli-Slide (1830) Das Leben ein Tanz oder Der Tanz ein Leben! A reissue of my transcription of the first published waltz by Johann Strauss, with only minimal editing from me. I have put it through newer software. I was a bit worried about doing it as I liked the first version, but it seems to have survived. There are lots of recordings, usually with the wrong scoring and at the wrong speed. In my opinion of course.
