French festival: We’d never pay as low as that 

The Festival d’opéra baroque et romantique at Beaune has responded to Sacha Hatala’s claims of pitifully low pay . They say the contralto was offered 800 Euros for singing a small part, and they have never had such a complaint from an artist before. Here’s the letter: Madame Sacha HATALA, Nous sommes très étonnés de votre lettre du 22 juillet dernier. Je voudrais simplement rappeler les faits : Thibault Noally, le chef du jeune Ensemble Les Accents en Résidence au Festival de Beaune depuis 3 ans, nous a suggéré de vous engager le 1er juin dernier pour chanter le petit rôle de Pelopida (comportant un air de 2 minutes et quelques récitatifs) dans l’opéra Mitridate de Scarlatti qui devait être donné à Beaune le 21 juillet 2017.
