PuccioSharon Isbin is an American classical guitarist, the founding director of the guitar department at the Juilliard School, a winner of multiple Grammy Awards, and a soloist with over 200 orchestras throughout the world. In other words, she knows what she’s doing. She began studying the guitar at the age of nine, she has recorded well over two dozen albums since her recording debut in 1978, and she has been going strong ever since.Ms. Isbin is accompanied on the album Souvenirs of Spain and Italy by the Pacifica Quartet: Simin Ganatra, violin; Austin Hartman, violin; Mark Holloway, viola; and Brandon Vamos, cello. Free Directories of Classical Music Written by Black Composers, including Repertoire for Violin and Orchestra, Launched by Music by Black Composers
THE RACHEL BARTON PINE FOUNDATION’S MUSIC BY BLACK COMPOSERSLAUNCHES NEW FREE DIRECTORIES OFREPERTOIRE FOR VIOLIN AND ORCHESTRA AND UNACCOMPANIED VIOLINWRITTEN BY BLACK COMPOSERS CHICAGO – The not-for-profit Rachel Barton Pine (RBP) Foundation’s Music by Black Composers (MBC) project has launched its first free online directories of classical music written by Black composers: Repertoire for Violin and Orchestra, and Repertoire for Unaccompanied Solo Violin. MBC works to rectify historic and ongoing racial injustices in the classical music sphere. MBC’s repertoire directories establish a central location for existing music by Black classical composers. They are a free resource for performers, conductors, concert programmers, students, and teachers seeking existing music, as well as for researchers and scholars of classical music. Concerts at Saint Thomas March PerformancesConcerts at Saint Thomas continues their 2019-20 season in March with guest performances from The King's Singers and Joy-Leilani Garbutt, and a performance of C.P.E. Bach's Die letzen Leiden des Erlösers (The Last Sufferings of Christ) from the Saint Thomas Choir of Men and Boys. British a cappella vocal ensemble The King's Singers will perform at Saint Thomas Church Fifth Avenue (at West 53rd Street) for the first time on March 3 at 7:30 pm, with a versatile program called An Audience with the King's Singers. The program will include pieces from their upcoming album and program Finding Harmony, which will be released on January 31, 2020. The performance will focus on the idea of using music as a tool to find unity in a divided world.
