An opera diva shuns Selfies, Facebook…
The Latvian mezzo-soprano Elina Garanca (pictured left), who took Salzburg by storm in La Favorita after prolonged maternity leave, has issued a coded attack on those of her colleagues (I think we know who she means, pictured right) who market themselves on social media. Classical music: YOU MUST HEAR THIS – Chicago pianist Jorge Federico Osorio plays a piano transcription of J.S. Bach by Walter Rummel, whose transcriptions deserve a much wider hearing.

But I had never heard of transcriptions of Walter Rummel -– even though the Hyperion label offer a […]

Mozart: Divertimento (String Trio) In E Flat Major, K. 563 Written: In 1788; In Vienna, Austria I am listening to this amazing music, and I find that I must repeatedly hear several movements, because I am so thrilled by both the composition and also by the excellence of the performance. The performers are: Martin Rummel, Cello; Christoph Ehrenfellner, violin; Firmian Lermer, viola Mr. Ehrenfellner was born in Salzburg and has had an extensive career as both violinist and conductor Firmian Lermer is from Germany and is the violist for the Scaramouche Quartet Martin Rumme l is a wonderful cellist, and he also teaches in New Zealand; and his repertoire now includes some 35 cello concertos, ranging from the Baroque to the present. Together, these three artists give one outstanding reading of this music Here are the titles of each movement: 1. Divertimento in […]
