Northern Ireland Opera's The Festival of Voice this weekend
Northern Ireland Opera's The Festival of Voice returns to Belfast this weekend (27 to 29 August 2021) with three recitals, presented in association with BBC Radio 3, and the annual competition with this year's finalists, Amy Conneely (mezzo-soprano), Caroline Behan (soprano), Cerys MacAllister (soprano), Ellen Mawhinney (soprano), Katie Richardson McCrea (mezzo-soprano) and Matthew Mannion (baritone), plus the Peter Rankin Piano Intern is Brendan Kennedy. There are three recitals from Ben McAteer (baritone), Kathryn Rudge (mezzo-soprano) and Elizabeth Watts (soprano), each with pianist Simon Lepper. The recitals are being performed without an audience but will be recorded for broadcast on BBC Radio 3. The finale of the Glenarm Festival of Voice Vocal competition will have an audience who will be able to watch the six singers competing for the Deborah Voigt Opera Prize. Again, I do like them a lot and find them very interesting with Norrington often highlighting textures which can go unnoticed. I think that the performances here of both the Pastoral and Fifth Symphonies are fine if a little cool at times and overall, not quite as engaging or profound as many others. Finalists announced for Northern Ireland Opera's 11th Glenarm Festival of Voice
The finalists for Northern Ireland Opera's Glenarm Festival of Voice With one vocal competition in Cardiff over (and congratulations to Claire Barnett Jones for her success), there is news of Northern Ireland Opera's 11th Glenarm Festival of Voice the finale of which is on 29 August 2021. For the competition, singers from applicants across Ireland are chosen after submitting a recording and they spend four days working with top opera and song professionals including former Director of the National Opera Studio, Kathryn Harries, Simon Lepper, and Ingrid Surgenor. The six finalists this year are Caroline Behan (soprano), Amy Conneely (mezzo-soprano), Cerys MacAllister (soprano), Matthew Mannion (bass- baritone) Ellen Mawhinney (soprano), and Katie Richardson McCrea (mezzo-soprano). and they will compete for the Deborah Voigt Opera Prize and the Audience Prize in a series of live performances on 29 August including solos, ensembles and Irish song in front of an audience and the judging […]
