[…] a friend and colleague of Clara Schumann (1819-1896), who herself made regular visits to England to perform, and he loved playing Schumann's concerto but the work was panned by UK critics. Sullivan's Cello Concerto was written for Piatti the same year, and the idea for it seems to have arisen from Piatti's playing of the Schumann. Intriguingly, Piatti's Rimembranze del Trovatore (published in 1865 and based on Verdi's Il Trovatore) is dedicated to Robert Emil Bockmühl, the Frankfurt-born cellist who was a friend of Robert Schumann and who worked on Schumann's Cello Concerto with the composer, thus suggesting that Piatti had been in contact with Bockmühl over the Schumann work. "Amor, el miedo desaparecerá" ("Love, fear will disappear") is the work of Walter Cammertoni, who hails from Córdoba and has created "Consecuencias" for Maximiliano Guerra´s Ballet del Mercosur. Paradoxically what interested me was the music: Johann Sebastian Bach´s great Chaconne for solo violin (closing Partita Nº2) heard fragmentarily in its original form, in the cello adaptation by Robert Bockmühl, in the flashily Romantic Busoni piano transcription, and briefly at the end in Stokowski´s full orchestra version.
