[…] has recorded his first disc of Bach, transcriptions of organ works by Busoni and others. And Michael points out that Collard may not be making any more recordings. As a boy, Collard sang in the church choir where his father was an organist and was impressed by Bach's organ works so this disc will be paying tribute to that. Another big disc to look forward to is of melodies from soprano Natalie Dessay and pianist Philippe Cassard, and the disc will be part of her farewell tour in 2025. The idea came about because of the suggestion that they have a disc to be available at the concerts, and her only condition was of the quality of the recording. For Brahms, there will be a cycle of his chamber music, with the Castalian String Quartet and friends, Michael Collins and Stephen Hough. The Wigmore Hall was the location for a number of premieres of Britten's works during his lifetime, and during 2019/2020 there will be nine concerts (plus learning events) focused on his music. […] stage. That being said, her critics were keen to comment on the state of her voice as well, an instrument whose troubled history has been widely reported. In a YouTube video released about three years ago by Carnegie Hall, Dessay discussed her lack of work as a recitalist and asserted that the recital is “the most difficult art.” //www.youtube.com/watch?v=CbYBvLcB6oE This confession seems odd in light of her recent performance at Carnegie Hall with Philippe Cassard, where the singer brought a sophisticated sensibility and a broad vision to her work as a recitalist. She appears to expand on the stage, completely at ease in her body, commanding attention without the aid of costumes, sets, and choristers. And during her recital, Dessay managed to bring a fresh vivacity to her performance without being overblown or vulgar, adding something more spontaneous than the presentational approach taken up by so many other singers.
