Apparently the program the night before was a lot better, including what sounds like a splendid Strauss Alpine Symphony, and I can't comment on the last night, which included Bruckner, but holy moly, the Mendelssohn and Brahms program was the worst concert I have ever heard from such an illustrious conductor and orchestra.The other big disappointment was Julia Wolfe's Her Story, which promised a lot and did not deliver. And while it's always good to hear Britten's War Requiem, last time around Semyon Bychkov conducted, and he was a lot better than Philippe Jordan.The highlights of the year? Well, there were many!Esa-Pekka Salonen and the San Francisco Symphony.
