A Vital Concert
When mandolinist Avi Avital last came to Boston, he was greeted with the ardor accorded to a rock star [our review here ]. He was soloist with the Venice Baroque Orchestra, and his playing bedazzled those who hadn’t heard of him. Just a year later, Avital is a much less well-guarded secret. His Bach album on DG has sold well, and his “Round the World” tour with accordion and percussion has been a big success, following on the heels of his eponymous CD. A Vital Interview
The Celebrity Series of Boston will present mandolinist Avi Avital, accordionist Ksenija Sidorova, and percussionist Itamar Doari for an exploration of the borders between folk and classical musics. As part of their “Between Worlds” tour, they will perform, on Friday March 11th at 8pm at Jordan Hall, works by Kreisler, Bach, Villa-Lobos, and Bartók, along with traditional Turkish and Israeli works. BMInt had a lot of questions for the verbal, vital Avital.
