The stars shine outdoors at Festival de Lanaudière
The Dance Theater of Harlem performs at the Festival de Lanaudière (Photo by Christina Alonso) The award-winning Cirque Éloize, rising young star of the cello Stéphane Tétrault and celebrated soprano Natalie Choquette have all headlined at this year’s edition of the internationally-acclaimed Festival de Lanaudière, which continues until August 10. I attended the 37-year-old festival for the first time last weekend, to take in a superb performance by The Dance Theater of Harlem, the famed ballet company founded in 1971 by dancer and choreographer Arthur Mitchell as a tribute to Martin Luther King. Upcoming concerts at the festival include The Orchestre Métropolitain with conductor Yannick Nézet-Séguin, for a romantic Aug. 6 concert of Beethoven’s lively Eighth Symphony and Wagner’s Siegfried Idyll; and Maestro Kent Nagano and the Montreal Symphony Orchestra will perform two concerts on Aug. 8-9, the first devoted to French Impressionism (Debussy and Ravel), and the second to […]
