[…] tremendous performance in Hunding's solo "Ich weiss ein wildes Geschlecht" from Die Walküre. He has a gorgeous dark bass, and, well, second-guessing everyone, I'd've given him Wotan's farewell if it's not too high for him. I like bass Wotans.Timothy Murray sang Billy Budd's long scene from that opera, where Billy has been sentenced to death and is musing about about various things. He was good, but better diction would have been nice. Props to Stephanie McNab for some great piccolo playing in the scene.Tenors Victor Cardamone and Edward Graves were very good in the duet "Ah! vieni, nel tuo sangue!" from Rossini's Otello (which bears little resemblance to Shakespeare's play!), a vocal battle between rivals for Desdemona's hand. African American Composer Initiative: New CD "Where Freedom Rings" Available
[…] chamber works by Joshua McGhee; a new piano trio and newly arranged piano duets by John Robinson; and solo piano and vocal/chamber music by Regina Baiocchi. The works by Capers, McGhee, and Robinson are AACI commissions, new additions to the chamber music repertoire. Performers on the album are soprano Yolanda Rhodes, pianists Josephine Gandolfi, LaDoris Cordell, and Deanne Tucker, violinist Susan C. Brown, cellist Victoria Ehrlich, flutist Stephanie McNab, bassoonist Douglas Brown, clarinetist Carol Somersille, trumpeter John Worley, trombonist John Monroe, bassist John Robinson, percussionist Jim Kassis, and vocalist LaDoris Cordell. The CD was produced by Jeannie Pool, recorded by Mark Dalrymple. The Student Stars concert featured, from left to right: Olivia Burns, David Codd, Reuben Chan, Danny Jones, Lenora Sagen, Emma McNab, Daniel Chow, and Mercy Jones. This enterprising venture brought the Taranaki Youth Orchestra together with the New Plymouth Orchestra for a programme of concertos chosen from three centuries of classical composers.
