Mozart: Così fan tutte, K588 Recorded at the Teatro Real de Madrid, 2013 Performed by the Chorus and Orchestra of the Teatro Real de Madrid, conducted by Sylvain Cambreling. The singers are: Anett Fritsch (Fiordiligi), Paola Gardina (Dorabella), Kerstin Avemo (Despina), Juan Francisco Gatell (Ferrando), Andreas Wolf (Guglielmo), William Shimell (Don Alfonso) In this DVD, Austrian film director Michael Haneke tackles Mozart’s music and amusement in the relationship between lovers. In this unusual interpretation of Despina, Kerstin Avemo brings an icy darkness and a vulnerable desperation that fit beautifully with Haneke’s conceptions; unfortunately, her voice frequently turned hard-edged and shrill. Conductor Sylvian Cambreling leads the Chorus and Orchestra of the Teatro Real de Madrid with uneven results. Most of the recitatives seemed glacially slow, though Haneke […]
