In his case, calling himself a bass-baritone means exactly that he sings both pure baritone parts, such as Rigoletto, Nabucco, Rigoletto, Germont, and Alfio, and true bass roles, such as Méphistophélès in Faust, Boito’s Mefistofele, and Zaccaria in Nabucco. His repertoire is extensive, with over 100 roles to his credit, and ranges from baroque (e.g. Argante in Rinaldo, the bass part in The Messiah, etc.) to contemporary opera, such as “Eurydice” in Boston.
