Do not go gentle - the Chamber Choir of London in Dorchester, the Hague & London
The Chamber Choir of London and conductor Dominic Ellis-Peckham will be commemorating Remembrance Sunday with a programme, Do not go gentle at Dorchester Abbey in Gloucestershire (10/11/2019) and repeated at Kloosterkerk, the Hague on Monday (11/11/2019). The programme features Toby Young's setting of the Dylan Thomas poem from which it takes its name, along with music by Ed Rex, Kim Andre Arnesen, Alexander Campkin, Owain Park, and Kerry Andrew, plus RVW's No Long Mourn for Me, James McMillan's A Child's Prayer and Herbert Howell's Requiem. This powerful work was written by Howells in the 1930s, a period when he was much affected by the death of his son Michael (who had evidently 'contributed' to the early manuscript of the piece, in the way of young children). Even when he is Silent
The Chamber Choir of London and Dominic Ellis-Peckham have another CD single out, this time Even When He Is Silent by the Norwegian composer Kim André Arnesen. The anthem was commissioned in 2011 by the St Olaf Festival (Olavsfestdagene) in Trondheim, Norway and the text was written by a prisoner in Cologne, Germany, during World War 2. I believe in the sun, even when it's not shining. I believe in love, even when I feel it not. I believe in God, even when He is silent. It is available now, on iTunes and Amazon, do give it a listen.

A taster of things to come - Victoria's Vidi speciosam from The Chamber Choir of London
The Chamber Choir of London, artistic director and chief conductor Dominic Ellis-Peckham, is a new choir which launched last month, made up of 18 of London's finest young consort singers and intending to perform a wide repertoire. Plans in the pipeline include a disc of Alexander Campkin's choral music, but there is a chance to hear the choir on disc before then as they are releasing a series of singles every other month. Victoria's Vidi speciosam is out now, released 8 June 2018, and available from iTunes. In August the release will be Alexander Campkin's Sent from God as a taster for the new album, and then in October the 'Kyrie' from Sir James MacMillan's Missa Brevis with Kim Arnesen's Even when he is silent to come.Vidi speciosam sets the text of the Responsory at Matins on the Feast of the Assumption (15th August), and the text itself derives from the Song […]

Whenever the words “among the most frequently performed” are used in a description of a contemporary choral composer, we usually can expect (if the claim is true) that the music is not only singable by good choral singers (not just professionals) but is also enjoyable to sing–and that it’s readily listenable by most anyone who […]
