[…] outright errors in the obits and the same two omissions.Typo in a Times photo caption, "Ozawar". (Could happen anywhere.)"Big Five" interpreted to mean "five greatest orchestras in the world", in the WBUR obit.Neither mentions survivors! It's pro-forma in an obit to say "Information on survivors was not immediately available" or "The Seiji Ozawa International Academy Switzerland, which announced the death, did not release any information about survivors." Neither - and this is amazing from James R. Oestreich at the Times, in what must have been an advance obit - mentions that Ozawa conducted the world premiere of Olivier Messiaen's sole opera, St. Francois d'Assise. Was it a sprained or broken finger that made him turn to conducting?FWIW, I also feel like the Times could have had more to say about the issues with Ozawa in Boston.

[…] Piano Sonata. She recorded the complete Haydn Violin Concertos on the PAN Classics label with the Münchener Kammerorchester conducted by Christoph Poppen (her former teacher), and planned to record the complete violin sonatas of Robert Schumann. In addition to the above mentioned above and recordings listed below under "Awards and Prizes", she has recorded works of Antonín Dvořák, Franz Schubert, Johannes Brahms (including the Violin Concerto), Alban Berg, Bohuslav Martinů, André Jolivet and others. JameR. Oestreich from The New York Times counted her recording of W.A. Mozart's violin concertos among the best recordings of 2016. She has recorded many discs for harmonia mundi with her recital partner Alexander Melnikov. These include their latest album with the Johannes Brahms' Sonatas for violin and piano, as well as Robert Schumann’s piano trios. Both, her recording of W.A. Mozart violin concerti with Il Giardino Armonico and Giovanni Antonini, as well as J.S. Bach’s […]

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: Violin Concerto No.5 in A major "Turkish" – Gil Shaham, SWR Symphonieorchester, Nicholas McGegan (HD 1080p)
[…] Caramoor Music Festival in addition to presenting Saul, one of the composer's most inventive and popular oratorios, on their west coast subscription series.Throughout his career, McGegan has defined an approach to period style that sets the current standard: intelligent, infused with joy, and never dogmatic. Under his leadership Philharmonia continues to expand its repertoire into the Romantic Era and beyond. Calling the group's recent recording of the Brahms Serenades "a truly treasurable disc", James R. Oestreich in The New York Times made special note of the performance's "energy and spirit". The recording, said Voix des Arts, offers "evidence that ‘period’ instruments are in no way inhibited in terms of tonal amplitude and beauty. These are... exceptionally beautifully played performances".McGegan's ability to engage players and audiences alike has made him a pioneer in broadening the reach of historically informed practice beyond the world of period ensembles to conventional symphonic forces. His […]
