A Final Flourish with Cappella Clausura
[…] to watch the pianist’s fingers and pages flying, and thinking, I’m really in a salon. The experience of being so close to the musicians, even hearing the singers breathe, or watching two pages turned by mistake and then fixed immediately – how lucky was I to be there? Amelia’s creative thinking has included so many novel collaborations: a particularly notable one was the celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Boston Women’s Memorial along with Meredith Bergmann, the sculptor, and the Boston Women’s Heritage Society, and Suffrage100MA. New music for non-traditional inclusive ensembles: RNS Moves & National Open Youth Orchestra in dynamic new pieces
[…] the orchestra's young disabled and non-disabled musicians will perform a lively programme on acoustic, electronic, and accessible instruments. Among more traditional instruments, the musicians also perform on some instruments not often found in orchestras, such as electric guitars, accordions, or on accessible instruments that may be completely new to audiences - from the Seaboard RISE to the ClarionTM, which some performers play using head movements. The concert includes new music by Alexandra Hamilton-Ayres, Ben Lunn, Anna Meredith and Michael Betteridge. Ben Lunn's piece pays homage to the virtuoso pianist, Paul Wittgenstein, who, after losing his right arm in the First World War continued to play left-handed.Following the London concert, the orchestra will be touring to Bristol, Poole and BirminghamFull details from the Barbican website.

The film features the Scottish Ensemble performing Anna Meredith's Tull. The film is on the Scottish Ensemble's YouTube channel, and can also be streamed.Tull was premiered by Scottish Ensemble in 2014. The three-minute piece is scored for 12 divided strings and presents a variation on the traditional Scots’ tune Tullochgorum. Meredith’s realisation is "fuzzy but energetic". Tullochgorum (also known as The Reel of Tullochgorum) is the title of a song, which carries the line 'For blithe and cheery we'll be a'. The words to the song were written by the Scottish poet, songwriter, minister and historian, the Rev. John Skinner in 1776 to the tune Tullochgorum, which is said to have been derived from an older Scottish song tune, printed in Craig's Collection in 1730 (information courtesy of the Scottish Country Dancing […]
