Rahbari launches new Persian orchestra
Forced out of the Tehran Symphony Orchestra , the conductor has rolled his own. Information just received: A new orchestra is to be launched in Tehran under the artistic leadership of Maestro Alexander Rahbari. The Persian Philharmonic Orchestra will be the first self governing orchestra in Iran, modelled on self governing orchestras in other parts of the World, such as the London Symphony Orchestra. This is an exciting development which organisers believe will breath new life into the musical life of Iran. Iranian maestro declines French honour
Iranian state media are reporting that the eminent composer and tar virtuoso Hossein Alizadeh has turned down the Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres. Alizadeh, 63, a three-times Grammy winner, said it was his principle not to accept titles. ‘The art-loving people and my dear compatriots have bestowed upon me the highest honour many times,’ he said.
