He was awarded the Elgar Medal of the British Elgar Society in 2000, a CBE in 2010 and is a British citizen. Otaka offers a spacious view of Anthony Payne's excellent realisation of Elgar's sketches for a Third Symphony. Maestro move: Swiss lands Japan orchestra
Matthias Bamert, 75, has been chosen as chief conductor of the Sapporo Symphony Orchestra. He succeeds Max Pommer, who lasted just three years. Bamert is presently Principal Guest Conductor at Daejeon Philharmonic Orchestra in South Korea.
